Getting ready for an overseas trip can take a lot out of you. There’s getting your passport, your tickets, making sure you have the right travel insurance, and of course, packing your bags, ensuring to pack every essential item.

Once everything has been planned, you might think you’re finally able to relax. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Wherever you go, you need to keep track of your belongings. There are several items you absolutely don’t want to lose.

Passport

This one is a no-brainer. Your passport is required for international travel, and without it, you won’t be able to enter most countries.

A passport is definitely something you want to keep safe. It can also be hard to replace a passport when you’re overseas. You’ll often need to show various documents like a copy of your birth certificate or photocopy of your missing passport, which you probably don’t have.

Wallet

Your wallet is another essential item. It’s not only a place to store your cash and credit cards but also your driver’s license or another form of identification.

If you lose your wallet, you’ll be stuck without any money and ID. This can make it difficult to do many simple things like buying a meal or paying for transportation.

Phone

In today’s day and age, it’s hard to imagine traveling without a cell phone. They’re not only great for keeping in touch with family and friends, but they’re also useful for things like maps, taking photos, and looking up information.

Losing your phone can be a real pain. You lose a valuable piece of technology, and you also lose all the data that was on it. This can include important documents, contact information, and more.

Clothes

While clothes may not seem like an essential item, they are important if you want to be able to continue your trip. Losing a suitcase full of clothes can put a real damper on your plans.

Not only do you have to worry about finding replacement clothes, but you also have to deal with the inconvenience of not having any clothes in the meantime. This can be especially troublesome if you’re in a country with a different climate than you’re used to.

Electronics

Outside of your phone, there are additional electronics you don’t want to lose. This can include items like your laptop, tablet, e-reader, and digital camera.

These devices are often expensive and can contain a lot of essential data. Losing any of them can be a real pain.

Medications

If you’re traveling with medication, it’s important to keep track of it. This is especially true if you’re carrying prescription drugs.

Losing your medication can be a severe issue. Not every country will be able to provide you with the specific medications you normally take.

Jewellery

Jewellery is often expensive and sentimental. It carries a lot of value to people, and it can be hard to replace.

These items are also a prime target for thieves. The rarer and more expensive it looks, the more likely a thief will target you.

Keys

Bringing your house or car keys will vary per person. Some people do it to have an easier time getting into their house or car once they get back home. Needless to say, you wouldn’t want to lose your house or car keys abroad. It can be extremely difficult to find a locksmith who can help you.

Additionally, many people will carry keys for rental cars or for their lodgings. Losing these keys and getting replacements is also annoying.

As easy as it is to get complacent and focus solely on relaxation, you’ll want to stay diligent in monitoring these items. Losing any of these items mentioned can put a real damper on your trip.
