Long weekend at the beach? Don’t throw in the towel just yet. Get out your suitcase and use this list as a handy guide on what to take with you.

Rule 1: Don’t take too much

A maximum of 15 essentials will take you from breach to brunch, from promenades to parties. It’ll fit in a small travel bag – just add in your undies and toiletries, and you’re ready to go.

Rule 2: Pack light and bright

Light weight fabrics and bright colours are made for the sunshine. Go bold with patterns, pick a base colour (white, black, navy). Choosing a couple of accent colours – fuschia and lime green, or lime and royal blue – will give you a capsule wardrobe that works whichever way you coordinate it.

Top tips

  • Don’t take anything too dressy – chances are you won’t wear it, and it’s a waste of space that could be used for something else
  • Pick two or three items of jewellery that coordinate with your colour theme
  • Sun hat, scarf and glasses are as much a part of your wardrobe as any of your clothes. Don’t be afraid to inject colour with these accessories too
