From the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the lodge’s tranquil ambience and warm hospitality. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that the stay is comfortable and memorable, while promoting sustainable tourism practices that protect the environment and support the local community.
Accommodation
Upon arriving at the lodge, we were welcomed by the friendly staff who made us feel at home. The Rainforest EcoLodge Sinharaja offers 16 individual chalets, each designed to blend in seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The chalets feature a charming rustic ambience that is both comfortable and welcoming. Each chalet is equipped with a private balcony that offers breathtaking views of the rainforest, allowing you to wake up to the soothing sounds of nature every morning.
Our chalet was spacious and airy, with large windows that allow plenty of natural light to filter in. It was furnished with a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom and a pedestal fan to keep us cool and comfortable throughout our stay. However, there was no air conditioning in the chalets as the lodge strives to minimise its carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly practices.
The container chalets are designed to provide guests with an immersive experience in nature, while still offering all the comfort and convenience of modern amenities. The decor and furnishings are inspired by the natural surroundings, with plenty of wood and earthy tones to create a warm and cosy ambience. The chalets are also designed to be energy efficient, with large windows that provide plenty of natural light and ventilation.
In addition to the individual chalets, the lodge also offers a shared lounge area where you can relax and unwind with fellow guests. The lounge features comfortable seating and stunning views of the rainforest, providing the perfect spot to curl up with a book or enjoy a cup of tea. We just sat there and enjoyed the spectacular views.

Activities
One of the highlights of our stay at the Rainforest EcoLodge Sinharaja was the guided hike through the Sinharaja Rainforest. This hike was led by an experienced and knowledgeable guide who took us on an adventure through the jungle, where we witnessed the spectacular flora and fauna endemic to Sri Lanka and some waterfalls. Early morning bird watching tours were also available.
If you’re interested in learning more about the local culture, the lodge offers cooking classes where you can learn how to cook traditional Sri Lankan cuisine using locally sourced ingredients. During these classes, you will have the opportunity to learn about the techniques and ingredients used in Sri Lankan cooking and even get a chance to try your hand at preparing some of the dishes yourself.
You can also visit a nearby tea plantation and learn about the history of tea in Sri Lanka, as well as witness the tea-making process.
Sustainability
